some friendly advice

"When we're incomplete, we're always searching for somebody to complete us. When, after a few years or a few months of a relationship, we find that we're still unfulfilled, we blame our partners and take up with somebody more promising. This can go on and on until we admit that while a partner can add sweet dimensions to our lives, we, each of us, are responsible for our own fulfillment. Nobody else can provide it for us, and to believe otherwise is to delude ourselves dangerously and to program for eventual failure every relationship we enter."

run. walk. mosey. p-back.

Yup, that's what I did. Run. Walk. Mosey. Then to top it off, I was piggy-backed over the finish line. And dispite the pain in my knee I actually really enjoyed the experience this past weekend in the 10K(6.2 mile) TX Round Up. I was there with eight girl friends and one of their husbands (who was deemed our team photographer). The run took us from the Capital(15th St) down Congress, cross the river, up the hill to Oltrof, across Oltorf to S 1st back into downtown around the capital to the start. It was awesome running the streets that I drive so many days of the week. It was a whole new perspective that helped me appreciate that trek a lot more than just driving it in my trusty-FTer jolopy. As I ran I discovered little restaurants and shops that I had missed so many times while driving.

But let's get back to the knee injury. Hmm...how did this all happen exactly? Let's begin by saying that when I run I don't usually do so on the pavement, so that combined with not-the-best-of-tennis-shoes basically clobbered my left knee. I acknowledged the pain at about mile 4.5 and slowed my run to a brisk walk, then the pain was just dull. I caught up with another friend of mine who's asama has slowed her run to a walk, so we trudged on together. When there was just about a mile left in the run, we were spotted by our friend's husband and the others who had just run the 5K, they greeted us with chants and cheers to RUN! but we could not budge, but then for the sake of the photo we mustered up the guts to endure the pain to run about five paces for our 'running-shot' and in the third step i wanted to DIE! Hobbling the last mile was somewhat humiliating, people were cheering us on to run, and it totally spurred the competitive rush in my being, but my body wasn't about to cooperate and suffer a possible worse injury in the name of shame. So we staggered onward, alas we reached the finish line and my friend wanted to piggyback me across it, so I climbed on board and smiled for all the cameras. What an experience.

I'll post some photos when they are emailed to me.
