jail break?

Today on my way to work I drove past a truck stopped in the middle of the road with a cop car stopped head-on with it... in between them was the apparent driver of the truck belly down on the ground with face in pavement and legs and arms up behind him... the police officer was kneeling over him with handcuffs. I noticed that the man had a jacket on but that his pants had fairly wide black and grayish vertical stripes. Was he an escapee? Man, I wish I had Leah's camera with me. Moments further down the road I nearly witnessed a city bus plow into three women crossing the street on a walk signal. Then about a half an hour later when I had to drive back down the same street, there was now six different cop cars pulled up on the sidewalk and grass with the officers all out of their cars talking while the alleged-'convict' sat in the grass with his hands now cuffed. I thought about going home (about 3 blocks away) for the camera, but decided against it, as I didn't have someone to drive me passed for a good shot without being noticed. There's always something going on around here... the University campus is on the north end of downtown Austin and I-35 is the only barrier between campus and East Austin, aka 'the ghetto.' Austin is indeed a crazy place to be. But with it being such a beautiful day outside, I have been craving just some relax time so I headed off to one of my favorite outdoor coffee joints for a fat-cappuccino and their delicious oatmeal cranberry chocolate cookie. Mmm Mmm Good. Tasty. And sat myself down for a good hour of reading in the nice outdoor air. It's a great day to be alive.

lazy? lazy, my arse!

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy. --Edgar Bergen (1903-1978).

I don't think necessity is the mother of invention - invention, in my opinion, arises directly from idleness, possibly also from laziness. To save oneself trouble. --Agatha Christie (1890-1976).

Idleness is not doing nothing. Idleness is being free to do anything. --Floyd Dell

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is in having lots to do and not doing it. --Mary Wilson Little.

ghetto air

The AC is offically working... for how long? No one knows. Still, I thought you might enjoy a peek at what we actually get to work with when we desire AC at our lovely apartment. Good ol' fashioned push button controls. There's no telling what the actually temp is in this place. No telling at all. So the HI-MED-LO controls only are the speeds of the fan pushing the air thru the vents. Run faster little hampster friend, R-U-N!

tis the season

I know, I just said that I love the fall, but I've now have two sick flat-mates and a sick neighbor, and this is the part that I hate about the Fall... the 'sick-season'. Grrr. Clorox Bleach cleaners will soon become my best friend... since it's awfully hard to quarantine a 2/1 apartment, especially when it's one of each roommate-pair that is sick.

@ 4:30am

I awoke early this morning to the sound of hard pounding rain outside the window where I sleep in my bed. Lightning flashing and thunders crashing... I love a good ol' fashioned storm, but I prefer it to not awaken me from my nightly slumber. Moments later I receive a text message from my friend who lives next door: "im wide awake and its pouring. i want a ride. see you at 7:20ish. THANKS. Its lightening too!" I laugh outloud then quickly hush so that I don't wake my roommate. I roll over and let the home-like sounds lull me to sleep.

all in a days' night

Work out, running over 3.5 miles (Hey, it's good for me) and lifting weights (Including that terrible thigh-master thing... yah baby!).

Enter my favorite French restaurant and order a specialty coffee and a delicious chocolate dessert and only be required to pay for only the coffee.

Watch the gay waitstaff swat his young male colleague on the butt and complement him on his brista skills.

Find seating outside only to be surrounded by a little boy who was acting and sounding like some kind of animal hiding and crawling through the landscape.

Devour or inhale (whichever you prefer) a divinely delicious chocolate dessert and mocha all in under 5 minutes.

Attempt to walk off all gained calories by walking through a dog park and nearly being attacked by every other dog there. Leash your dogs, darn you! That's it, next time, I'm taking the road.

Make and eat a deliciously healthy meal with my friends.

Scour (yes, I said scour) the kitchen and do everyone's dishes, then hang post-it's in conspicuous places to remind the inhabitants of my apartment to leave things this clean when they finish doing something in the kitchen.

Sit down and watch a movie with the girls.

Yet best of all:

Me: What is that on your butt?
Her: Where?
Me: Oh, it's pasta sauce.
Her: Wretched place for a spot of tomato sauce.
Both: [evil laugh]

it feels like fall to me

Today has been the most beautiful day of the entire semester. It was only 70F-something outside with blue skies and puffy white billowing clouds and a great healthy breeze. I just thought you should know.

raindrops keep fallin' on my head

It rained today. The kind of Oregon rain that I actually had been craving. You know, that light, cool, misty-kind-of rain. I was walking from my apartment to the gym on campus dressed in a pair of workout shorts and one of those short-sleeved dryfit shirts. It's still hot outside down here mind you, but the rain, amazingly enough was cool. It felt great. People were bustling around trying to avoid it, but not me. I stood tall and took my time walking in the rain. It was lovely.

who is the TAN woman?

Here I am with a "healthy glow" working on Leah's longhorn spirit project for hours upon hours that night our AC broke at the apartment... The project was a paper rendition of the UT Stadium. This is when it was only partially finished.
